It’s common knowledge that Cape Town is synonymous with mountain-meets-the-sea imagery; the ultimate city of dreams. This city dominates with it’s awe inspiring nature, edgy fashion and dope food, making it a global bucket list destination.

With all that said, do you have R100 left in your account or (dare we say it), nothing?

There is no need for you to hide indoors in brokenness shame; there are countless ways to have fun in the Mother City without spending a cent. The best part about Cape Town during festive season is that the weather is on it’s best behavior, therefore this calls for more outdoor adventurous things to do.

Experience the mother city’s treats this festive season with R100 in your pocket. We’ll show you how…

Follow this easy and fun guideline without hurting your less-than-happy pocket:

1. Take a walk in the park (The Company’s Garden)

Address: 19 Queen Victoria St, Cape Town City Centre, Cape Town, 8000, The Company’s Garden

The green field spotted with gorgeous trees and indigenous herbs & flora is an ideal spot to spend a few hours lazing away. The soothing environment allows you to lay on the grass whilst either reading your favorite novel, daydreaming or have a picnic with your loved ones. Also who can resist feeding the cute and fluffy squirrels climbing the trees and hopping right on your feet? Chill, these cute things don’t want your money, they simply want peanuts. P.s. don’t be horrid to them

2. Conquer the great Table mountain

Most Table Mountain adventures start out with a gentle gradient and well-defined trail, remember though “the higher you go the cooler it becomes”. The same principle applies to hiking Table mountain. Hiking up Table Mountain is one of the best ways to experience this iconic landmark. Why compromise the experience by using the cable way? There is more than one route to get to the top of Table Mountain, however we recommend the Platteklip Gorge hiking route which starts a few metres to the right of the lower cableway station as you face the mountain from the car park. There is no ways you can be lost as the route is clearly signposted.

Tip: Take enough water that will last you throughout the hike, douse enough sunblock onto exposed skin and wear sensible hiking shoes

3. Bobs place (R1 shots every Wednesday)

Address: 187 Long St, Cape Town City Centre, Cape Town, 8001

Boost your night life points via the infamous Long street, by popping by at Bobs bar. No reservation is needed at Bobs bar for their R1 shots on Wednesdays nights. Just stop by from 9pm onwards to sample some interesting blends.

4. Take it to the Beach

Camps Bay beach is the place to be, the beautiful beach is fringed with palm trees and you might never know whom of the famous people you can bump to. Snuggle your feet into the platinum blonde sands and take a swim to cool off from the harsh sun. To take things to another level you can stay at the beach to watch the sunset with a glass of your favorite alcoholic beverage.

5. V & A waterfront

Address: V&A Waterfront, V & A Waterfront, Cape Town, 8002

The waterfront offers a variety of things to do from movies, designer clothing stores and cruises. I think for broke situations window shopping with some friends and an ice cream is still as fun.

Don’t ever leave the waterfront if you haven’t been on a cruise. Did you know? There are cruises for R50.
