Demi Lovato is “overwhelmed in the best way” following the outpouring of support she has received in response to her new documentary.

The 28-year-old singer opens up on her 2018 near-fatal overdose in her new YouTube documentary, ‘Demi Lovato: Dancing with the Devil’, and has now thanked her “fans, friends, and family” for sending her “love and support” since the series – which hits YouTube on March 23 – premiered at the SXSW Film Festival this week.

She wrote on her Instagram Story: “Thanking god for all the love and support I’ve felt from my fans, friends and family over the past 24 hours. My heart is so overwhelmed in the best way..

“I love you all so much and thank you for your messages.. you have no idea what they mean to me. We’re in this together and I feel you with me – thank you (sic)”

In the series, Demi discusses the lead up to her overdose, as well as her time in rehabilitation afterwards and what life looks like for her almost three years later.

The ‘Anyone’ singer also alleges she was sexually assaulted by her drug dealer on the night she overdosed after smoking heroin, and even claims she lost her virginity when she was raped as a teenager.

Ahead of the documentary’s release, Demi admitted last month she “wouldn’t change a thing” about what happened after her drug overdose, because she believes she needed to endure her health crisis in order to “learn the lessons that [she] learned” afterwards.

She said: “Everything had to happen in order for me to learn the lessons that I learned. It was a painful journey, and I look back and sometimes I get sad when I think of the pain that I had to endure to overcome what I have, but I don’t regret anything.

“I’m so proud of the person I am today. And I’m so proud that people get to see it in this documentary and I couldn’t be more grateful that I had someone by my side.”
