Fans of the world’s creepiest (not to mention, deadliest) animatronics are about to face a really bad case of disappointment.

Five Nights At Freddy’s. The game that mothers everywhere downloaded for their 5-year-olds because they thought the bear was cute.

And then didn’t get any sleep for a week, because all those “cute” animals were just a giant bucket of nightmare fuel that kept said 5-year-olds up all night.

Scott Cawthon, CEO and founder of ScottGames and creator of the Five Nights At Freddy’s series recently announced the 6th game in the franchise.

Unfortunately we really can’t have nice things, as literally everyone on Twitter keeps reminding me. Thanks guys.

In a statement on the online gaming store, Steam, Cawthon stated that the project had been abandoned due to the insane pressure to top previous entries in the franchise.

“After forcing myself to keep working on it day after day, I realized something–I just don’t want to work on this.

“So, after giving this a lot of thought, I’ve decided that I’m going to stop working on it. I’m not going to reveal anything else about what the game was, and I’ve asked other people involved to never divulge anything either.

“It’s just not going to be talked about,” said Cawthon.

After Sister Location, I can’t say I blame him. That game was intense.

After this, gaming’s most secretive customer went on to clarify that he was not abandoning the series.

For those who haven’t been keeping up on this, there is a FNAF movie in the works, being handled by Blumhouse Productions (Paranormal Activity, Insidious, Sinister).

This is his only Tweet. He doesn’t talk much.

“The movie is in amazing hands with Blumhouse. I’m also working to get a VR title out at some point,” said Cawthon.

I’m pretty sure VR horror games are just what method developers are using to kill us…

Unsurprisingly, no release date has been announced for the movie or any of the games.

Just hang in there, kids.
