Yesterday, the best in U.S prime time television programming were honoured at the 69th edition of the Primetime Emmy Awards.
The ceremony was held at the Microsoft Theater in the “City of Angels” – Downtown Los Angeles with Stephen Colbert as host.
With all the glitz and glam involved, there were obviously going to be moments that stood out, above others.
Top 7 moments of the 2017 Emmy Awards:
1. The Nicole Kidman and Alexander Skarsgard kiss
Kidman congratulating Skarsgard on his achievement which left the crowd gasping and cheering.
Skarsgard came up to receive his award for Best Supporting Actor in a Limited series or Movie, Big Little Lies.
As he approached the stage, his co-star, Nicole Kidman gave him a complimentary peck on the lips.
This certainly had everyone’s tongues wagging.
2. Stephen Colbert’s opening song.
He reigns as one of the kings of comedy.
Before proceeding with the ceremony, Colbert opened with a song and monologue. He sang about how the world seems less like a sack of thrash if you watch excellent television.
The only complaint is that his tune reminded everyone, that Bryan and not Peter had won this season’s Bachelorette.
3. Alec Baldwin’s dedicates his win.
Baldwin dedicating his gong to Pres. Trump.
He won Best Supporting actor in a comedy series, for his portrayal of President Donald Trump, on Saturday Night Live.
Baldwin then dedicated the victory to President Trump.
After Colbert’s monologue in which he (Colbert) reminded the audiences of the Trump’s bitterness at not winning an Emmy for his TV series, the Apprentice.
This is what Baldwin said, “At long last Mr. President, here is your Emmy,” and made another joke.
He was referring to he (Baldwin) and his wife not having a baby this past year. He said, “You put an orange wig on, it’s birth control, trust me.”
4. Lena Waithe, the first black woman to win an Emmy for comedy writing.
The game changers- Aziz and Lena. It is an industry that is dominated by males.
Shout-out to the females showing the rest how it’s done.
Waithe, along with her ‘Master of None’ co-writer, Aziz Ansari received a standing ovation from the audience when collecting their award.
It was special moment to see a person of muslim descent and a person of colour stand tall in the “City of Angels”, especially in the United States of America.
5. Nicole Kidman’s perfect acceptance speech.
She is known for delivering nothing but excellence every time she is on screen performing.
And after receiving the award for lead actress, for her role in the TV series Big Little Lies, her acceptance speech was nothing short of perfect.
She thanked her husband (Keith Urban) and spoke about the importance of having a family that is loyal and supporting.
She dedicated her gong to her two children, Sunnie and Faith and had the crowd tearing up.
6. Kate McKinnon’s shout-out to Hillary Clinton.
Clinton may still feel a little sad over her lost to Donald Trump, but she still has more fans than the President.
McKinnon, who won two awards at the ceremony, included Hillary Clinton in her acceptance speech.
The Saturday Night Live actress gave a shout-out to Clinton and praised the politician for her “grace”.
7. The showstopper: RuPaul dressed up as an Emmy Award.
The “Queen of the Drags’ once again stole the show.
RuPaul graced the stage dressed as an Emmy Statue and pulled it off so well, that we think he deserves an Emmy for being an Emmy.
He even cracked a joke with Stephen Colbert, when Colbert asked him, if he liked Oscar (referring to the Oscar Awards).
He responded with this, “He’s cute, we actually dated for a little while. I had to break it off, I just couldn’t date a man who’s naked all the time holding a sword.”
Talk about being the showstopper.
