JOHANNESBURG – Michael Jackson once set a record for most nominations in a single year for the AMAs at 11, but now Drake has ‘Beat It’ at 13 nominations this year. His nominations include Artist of the Year, Favourite Male Artist, Favourite Artist – Rap/Hip-Hop.
Rumoured ex-girlfriend Rihanna isn’t too far behind Drizzy with seven nominations, UK singer Adele at five nods, while Queen Bey settles for her favourite number at four.
New artists The Chainsmokers, who currently have the number one song “Closer” on the Billboard Chart, got four nods for their first time being nominated while fan favourite favourites Twenty One Pilot who’ve had a busy and successful year scored three nods as first time entrants.
