‘A quick test to finding your hair’s porosity is putting a strand in a cup of water and seeing if it floats or sinks,’ she explains.

‘If it rises to the top and stays at the top, you have low porosity hair.

‘If it completely sinks down to the bottom you have high porosity hair. If it floats in the center, you have normal porosity hair.

‘If you’re someone with high porosity, meaning your hair sinks to the bottom, you need a lot of protein added to your hair. That means rice water treatments, and adding a bunch of proteins like avocados, bananas, eggs to your hair is super important if you want your hair to grow and be moisturised and look strong.

‘If you’re hair stayed at the top you have low porosity hair and you need to stay away from any kind of protein treatment.

‘Your hair has enough protein as it is, and you can get protein overload which can make your hair dry and brittle.

‘If you’ve been suffering and don’t understand what to put on your hair, a lot of the time you have low porosity hair and you need to be using a lot of water-based products.

She goes on to add that the test works regardless of race or gender, and doesn’t make a difference if hair is curly or straight.

Porosity refers to the hair’s ability to absorb and retain moisture in and out of the outermost layer of your hair, known as the cuticle.

In a second video she reveals she has ‘changed the game’ for her bank account since discovering the porosity of her hair.

For low porosity hair – those with compact cuticles that struggle to get moisture in – Chloe recommends adding heat to the products before adding them to your hair to open up pores, and only using light oils to avoid looking greasy.

She advises giving the products a ‘warm bath’ and using sweet almond of Jojoba oil.

In another video she describes the three other characteristics as well as porosity to lean about hair.

‘First is your porosity, this is your hair’s ability to maintain and absorbs moisture and water. There are three types of porosity.

‘Next is your texture, which is the individual diameter of each strand of your hair. You can have coarse fine of medium hair, and knowing these helps you style your hair in the best way.

‘The last is your elasticity, which is super important and there’s an easy way to find this at home.

‘Next is you density, which is just the most amount of strands located on your head.

‘Notice I said nothing about hair type, because if doesn’t actually matter.’

She goes on to stretch a piece of hair and let it go to see her hair’s elasticity and see if it’s healthy.

Chloe pulls a strand of hair and lets if go.

For people with curly hair, it will ‘shrink’ back to it’s natural state if healthy. For people with straight hair, if it doesn’t break it’s healthy.
