DURBAN – Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, although eating a morning meal is not easy for some people, one need to keep track of what they eat to stay healthy.

Breakfast is also important for maintaining weight plenty of restaurants are now offering breakfast fare all day long.

Our moms were right! We should never skip breakfast.

Studies show that a good meal in the morning can help your body prepare for the day and lower the risk of you getting heart disease, diabetes and obesity.

Most people say the perfect time to do breakfast is after 7am, but nutrition specialist Laura Motosko says the best time to eat is based on your ability to plan healthy nutrient-rich meals and your schedule. “Perhaps it would be 30 minutes after waking up” Motsoko added.

Research says men who skipped breakfast had 27% high risk of heart attack than those who honored the morning meal. According to scientists, skipping breakfast may make you hungrier and more likely to eat large meals, which leads to a surge in blood sugar levels.

Researchers at the Harvard School of Public Health says that the first thing to do when you wake up is rehydrating because a human body is contains more than 70% water. A glass or two of warm water with lemon, herbal or clean tea are your best fluid options in the morning.

Waiting until 9 or 10am is too late for breakfast. If it happens that you skip breakfast at least eat yogurt or just have coffee. Food like whole grain cereal, bread, eggs or baked beans are one of the recommended for breakfast. Fruit, cheese, wholegrain crackers or low sugar peanut butter are also the keys to better health for mid morning breakfast.

Jeff Croswell, a fitness trainer says there is no best time to eat breakfast, lunch or dinner – your meal planning will depend on your schedule. Crosswell concludes by recommending that a person should basically eat every three hours.
