2. Fayoum Oasis, Cairo

Fayoum City, the main town in the oasis, is located 85 km south of Cairo. Although usually described as an oasis, Fayoum is not fed by underground water, like the western Sahara Desert oases further to the south and west, but by water from the Nile transported to this natural triangular depression by a series of canals.

3. Okavango Delta, Botswana

The Delta is an unspoiled wilderness with terrain ranging from dry grasslands to swamps.

4. The Ark at Aberdare National Park, Kenya

The Ark is set in the heart of the iconic Aberdare National Park. The ark overlooks a water source and salt lick which attracts awesome wildlife.

6. Tarangire National Park, Tanzania

The Tarangire National Park is the sixth largest national park in Tanzania, it is located in the Manyara Region. The name of the park originates from the Tarangire River that crosses the park.

7. The Atlas mountains, Northwestern Africa

The Atlas Mountains are a mountain range in the Maghreb. It stretches around 2,500 km (1,600 mi) through Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia.

8. Chiremba / Epworth Balancing Rocks, Zimbabwe

Although the Chiremba / Epworth balancing rocks are not as extensive as Domboshava, or Ngomakurira in the Harare area, they are well-known locally because one of the strange granite formations appears on the old Zimbabwean dollar notes issued during the period of hyper-inflation.

9. Grand-Bassam, Ivory Coast

The town is divided by the Ébrié Lagoon into two halves: Ancien Bassam is the former French settlement, facing the Gulf of Guinea.

It is home to the grander colonial buildings, some of which have been restored. The district is also home to a cathedral and the Ivory Coast National Museum of Costume.

10. Lake Kivu, Democratic Republic of the Congo

Lake Kivu is one of the African Great Lakes. It lies on the border between the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Rwanda, and is in the Albertine Rift, the western branch of the East African Rift. Lake Kivu empties into the Ruzizi River, which flows southwards into Lake Tanganyika.

The island has several historic buildings – including the House of Slaves, which records the painful history of the slave trade.
