JOHANNESBURG – People of the world cannot get enough of South African sunshine as the numbers show how tourism arrivals into South Africa have increased by 12.2 percent. The total tourist arrivals from January 2016 to July 2016, stood at 5 791,504 — an increase of 14.9% compared to the same period in 2015.

We are greatly encouraged that all regions are experiencing an increase in tourist arrivals,” director-general in the tourism department Victor Tharage said.

“This can only serve to motivate both government and the tourism industry to increase its efforts in terms of marketing the country as a value for money destination, ensuring that once tourists arrive, they receive excellent service across the board.”

So where are these people of the world coming from? Comparing July 2016 to July 2015, the increase in tourist arrivals from:

1. Asia – increase by 47.7%

2. The Middle East – increase by 35.1%,

3. North America – increase by 26.1%,

4. Central and South America – increase by 24.4%,

5. Europe – increase by 17.5%

6. Australasia increase by 16.4%.
