Nigerian-born Lovelyn Nwadeyi made headlines when she addressed fellow alumni of the University of Stellenbosch last year, delivering a provocative speech entitled: “Courage, compassion, and complexity”.
Nwadeyi, 25, spoke bravely about the confusion she felt as a very young immigrant to South Africa, when her parents relocated to Queenstown in the Eastern Cape. During the speech, she spoke in flawless Afrikaans, Xhosa, and English, using language as a tool to unite and drive home an honest dialogue about inequality.

While she was completing her Master’s in Peace and Conflict studies, Nwadeyi demonstrated her leadership skills by acting as a voice of reason during the #FeesMustFall protests. She rallied students and negotiated with authorities. Her philosophy is to do justice, and be humble.
Through her experience working with non-profit organisations and in academia, she has developed a keen interest in youth development. Her honesty, strength of conviction and commitment to truth earned her a slot on 702 as a talk show host.
It’s no wonder Elle Magazine named her one of its Woman to Watch in 2016. Nwadeyi recently started her job at MTN, and says the fact that she can’t keep up yet keeps her on her toes, especially in an industry that is evolving so rapidly.
