People LOVE crab curry because of the spices and Heat. The curry is best served with chapati’s, steamed rice or bread.
This meal is a main course.
Ingredients
2kgs crab (Large)
1 large onions
4 large ripe tomatoes (grated)
Curry leaves (2 sprigs)
Chillies (I used 8)
1 tblsp ginger and garlic
1 tsp whole jeera
1/2 tsp mustard seeds
1/2 tsp dhania seeds
1 bay leaf
3 cloves crushed garlic
3 tbslp Masala
2 tblsp Kashmiri chilli powder
1 tsp tumeric powder
1 tsp methi masala
Salt to taste
Oil (I used 1/2 cup)(adjust to suit your requirements)
Method
Use a large pot
Heat the oil and add whole spices
Allow to pop
Add onions and braise until slightly golden
Add all the spices and the ginger and garlic
Braise a few minutes being careful not to burn
Add the crab and coat well with spices
Cover and cook for about ten minutes in medium heat
Add the tomatoes, chilies, curry leaves and garlic.
Season well.
Soak 1/4 block of tamarind in 1/2 cup boiling hot water
Press out the pulp and discard the seeds, etc
Pour this into the curry and allow to simmer for about 20 mins
Garnish and serve.
Note:
Poke little holes in the crab to help absorb the flavours
You can adjust the oil and amount of tomatoes to suit your taste
