Durban ICC was a hive of activity on Saturday the 25th of February, when it hosted the 16th annual Metro FM Awards.

Hosted by radio personalities, Pearl Modiadie and Amon Mokoena, many admit that this year’s main music award event came with a lot of drama shading.

The fashion and the glam brought a lot of vibrancy, class, and colour.

The ever so fashion forward TV personality and presenter, Bonang Matheba donned a classic chignon and she pulled off an elegant off-the-should black sequined Gert-Johan Coetzee dress.

Radio personality Khanyi Mbau stole the show with her strapless pink ball gown, while Lerato Kganyago opted for a different look with her tailored cleavage-hugging Craig Jacobs velvet suit.

Local rapper David Ngcobo who is popularly known as Nasty C, scooped many awards at this year’s ceremony, taking home four awards: Best Hit Single, Best Male, Best Hip-Hop and the biggest award of the day, Song of The Year.

Newcomer and fans favorite, Amanda Black, won the coveted Listeners Choice Award and seized the trophy for Best R&B Single.

We can’t speak about the Metro awards without mentioning rapper Ricky Rick’s acceptance speech.

No one was ready for the drama when he started his Best Hit Single winner’s speech with, “I am supposed to be happy about this award but am not and if you know my raps (if niggas can pay for these f^cking awards, then my nigga I don’t want them” you will know why am not happy,” he said.

Addressing aspiring artists he said, “Shout out to every kid who can’t win awards because they don’t have money. 90% of the sh*t that I hear on the radio is “rubbish”, shout out to every kid who can’t put their songs on the radio because they do not have money, use the internet,” the rapper added.

When the audience thought the drama was over, the rapper addressed the issue in an interview backstage. Telling audiences that he had a lot to air out and added angrily that powers should stop playing with the people because they were “not stupid”.

Enough with the drama! Here is a gallery of the glitz and glamor of the black capet:
