Gibson’s Gourmet Burgers and Ribs is known for their enormous burgers and monster milkshakes. Located at the V&A Waterfront the American style gourmet burger restaurant is currently running a burger special for the duration of the winter school holidays.

Until July 31, guests can buy a regular 200g Gibson’s burger and pay R19.99 for a 160g burger of the same kind.

I visited Gibson’s to try this latest offering, where I had the 200g Governor’s cheese and bacon burger which goes for R141. The juicy burger is topped with lashings of smokey barbecue sauce, cheddar cheese, bacon and sweet mustard on either a sesame seed or brioch roll. With the Burgerlicious special you can buy the smaller burger, which costs R105, for under 20 bucks.

Of course I had mine with their amazing sweet potato fries and no Gibson’s meal is complete without a milkshake. I was in the mood for a cookies and cream milkshake, so that’s exactly what I had. I had been to Gibson’s before so I knew exactly what to expect, which is why I skipped breakfast.

After some careful planning, I successfully managed to sink my teeth through all the layers from the patty to the bacon and cheese. I’m a firm believer that the best kinds of burgers are messy and this one didn’t disappoint. If you’re not in the mood for a burger, Gibson’s also has mouthwatering ribs on offer.

The lunch time offer is available from Monday to Sunday between 11am and 6pm. The offer is for sit down only and not take outs and sharing is allowed.

Then again, with a burger so good, you wouldn’t want to share!
