Cape Town – South African zef rap team Ninja and Yolandi Visser have accused Suicide Squad director David Ayer of stealing their aesthetic.

“Yes David Ayer u jockin our style,” Visser wrote. “Callin ninja up before your movie came our pretendin 2b down, so it looks OK when u bite our black & white graf style & our opening sequence & an all da lil tiny details u nibbeld dat other people wont see but we notice.”

(“Yes David Ayer, you’re jocking our style. Calling Ninja up before your movie came out pretending to be down, so it looks okay when you bite our black and white graphic style, and our opening sequence, and all the tiny little details you nibbled that other people won’t see but we notice.”)

In a ruthless video and text post on Instagram on Wednesday, Visser lambasted the director of the hit film for “jocking” their style – and, as a montage of pictures compares Die Antwoord imagery to scenes from Suicide Squad, it’s easy to see what she means.

Suicide Squad is a recently-released action film based on DC Comics’ antihero characters. It has been a box office hit despite mixed reviews, in part due to a star-studded cast including Will Smith, Jared Leto, Margot Robbie, Viola Davis and supermodel-turned-actress Cara Delevingne.

In the pics Visser chose to post, Jared Leto’s character the Joker looks very similar to Ninja, and Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn is styled similarly to Visser herself.

One stage outfit of Visser’s features three watches on each of her wrists – and, you guessed it, Harley Quinn wears three watches.

Visser said that stars of Suicide Squad had told her how much Ayer had spoken about Die Antwoord while shooting the film.

“Cara & Jared told us how much u were talkin abt us on set but u never asked our permision to rip us off.”
Visser said that Ayer has not responded to the claims.

“When ninja texted u sayin wassup wif dat u said nothin like a scared lil b*tch. U were jus flauntin our names pretendin to b down. u aint down an u never will b.”

(When Ninja texted you saying what’s up with that, you said nothing like a scared little b*tch. You were just flaunting our names pretending to be down. You aren’t down, and you never will be.)

Visser challenged Ayer to come to their recording studio to hash it out.

“Cum show ur pretty face at my studios,” she wrote. “We watin for u.”
