Michelle Mosalakae is the new actress to keep your eye on.
This style queen is a Revlon ambassador, actress, writer, and director. It doesn’t hurt that she’s also a Rhodes College Honours Alumna…
The Isibaya star was nominated as a rising star Mzansi Magic Viewer’s Choice Awards and is definitely the next screen siren to watch out for. Aside from being a talented actress, Michelle speaks four languages – English, Afrikaans, Sotho, and Spanish.
As part of the Revlon “Live Boldly” campaign, the actress said she is “so happy that this campaign is encouraging women to speak up, to pursue their dreams fearlessly, and to love each other and themselves.”
Michelle is not afraid to speak up about what is important to her. She is particularly outspoken about equal rights for women:
“We need to see our role in the world, in the workplace, at home and every other space differently. We need to begin to acknowledge one another, support one another and speak up for each other. Create more opportunities where women are in positions of power in the workplace and hopefully a movement will emerge where we can get legislation passed, which further creates the opportunity for women to be true to themselves and achieve their dreams.”
Michelle considers herself lucky to grow up in a community that never regarded her as different or less for her albinism. Others are less lucky, having to worry about being kidnapped or mutilated just because they lack the melanin that most others’ skin produces naturally. However, Michelle says,
“I have wonderful parents. My mother told me I’m not different or less than anyone, she taught me self-love and planted that seed that’s stayed with me. As a person living with albinism you need to find self-love first, irrespective of what other people think… I grew up without fear. I was protected by people who don’t give in to stereotypes. I think the killings [of people with albinism by people who believe their body parts are magical] are based on a lack of understanding.”
Her obvious intelligence, determination and otherworldly beauty make it clear that Michelle is going places. We can’t wait to see what’s in store for her future (and hope to see her in a series or movie where she has the chance to use all her languages!!)
