JOHANNESBURG – Mouth watering food, the sun shining, happy people and breath-taking music were the order of the day this weekend at the Dstv Delicious food and Music Festival which took place at the Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit. Look, it’s simple, if you weren’t there you missed out. BIG TIME!

People came in their numbers treating themselves to a chilled family outing over the weekend. Dressed in their shorts, summer dresses, tank tops and sunglasses, while carrying their camping chairs and towels, ready for an eventful day.

There was an array of scrumptious food to choose from, including sushi, waffles and ice cream, gourmet burgers, cheese steak rolls, and a whole not more! Ugh, writing about it is making me hungry! Speaking of food, celebrity chefs Siba Mtongana and Jenny Morris were also in attendance, dishing out some of their kitchen secrets.

If you brought the little ones with, or are just a kid at heart, there was a kiddies section, where the kids got to hang out with cartoon character, Ben 10’s ‘Four Arms’, go on jumping castles, wall climb as well as win some cool prizes.

Music performances kicked off at 2pm, with Mi Casa blessing attendees as the opening act. Their performance in a word: WOW! It was energy packed. J Something, Mi Casa’s lead vocalist told the audience that they appreciate everyone who supports their music “because without you, we are nothing.”

De La Soul served the crowd with some serious hip-hop and left the crowd wanting more. The legendary hip-hop group had one request: “If you just gonna fold your arms, go the f*#k home.” Louie Vega brought out the entire Elements of Life band and people rocked out, dancing to the soulful house sounds into the night.

The rain didn’t even stop the crowd from seeing classic royalty, Macy Gray perform. She had everyone singing along to her hit single ‘I Try’ and took a minute to sing a South African classic, ‘Shosholoza’. Arrested Development closed the show on Saturday night.

On Sunday, the chilled vibes continued, with performances from Lira, Hugh Masekela and wrapping up a fantastic weekend, was legendary group, The Jacksons, whose set was utter perfection, as it’s their first time performing in SA.

It was a splendid weekend that saw, the young and the old coming together in the name of good food and music.
