The year is quickly coming to an end and TikTok has easily been the most popular app for creativity and entertainment.

Over 1 billion used the app to be entertained, find and share joy with others, and learn new things over the year.

The video-sharing app released a major 2021 round-up, with all the trends, filters, and moments that defined this year on the platform.

A part of this report focused on the breakthrough creators on the app that we just couldn’t stop watching.

Here are the ten accounts who ruled our ‘For You’ pages in 2021.

1. Chef Puff (@thatlittlepuff)

Easily one of the cutest cats on TikTok, Puff is an NYC cat chef that has grown rapidly in popularity. His love for the culinary arts began during the pandemic with his owner Lynch Zhang sharing videos of Puff cooking and debunking food hacks.

2. Olivia Rodrigo (@livbedumb)

Olivia Rodrigo’s breakthrough is in sync with her music career which has been on the up for the past couple of years. This 18-year-old singer, songwriter, and actress broke records with her debut album which received seven Grammy nominations, and her songs have been used millions of times on the app making her a star.

3. Oneya D’Amelio (@angryreactions)

Oneya D’Amelio does exactly what his handle suggests, he shares his ’angry’ reactions to other people’s content. He has become the go-to creator for motivation and a good laugh by screaming positive affirmations to other creators.

4. Lissette Eduardo (@chikybombomreal)

Lissette Eduardo has mastered the art of blending humour and positivity on the app which has helped her make her mark as one of the most popular creators on the app.

She is a Latinx creator from the Dominican Republic and uses her platform to empower other women through her hilarious content and honest advice.

5. Taylor Swift (@taylorswift)

Taylor Swift has only been on the app since August but has cemented herself as the ’queen’ of TikTok. With over 93 million followers, Swift jumps onto viral trends, dances with her cats, and of course teases some of her music.

6. Anna Sitar (@annaxsitar)

Anna X Sitar is known for her Starbucks runs but she also helps her followers through comedy. She is most well known for dreaming up a perfect future with the “I Don’t Want It” series and “Another Day, Another Starbies” reviews on TikTok.

7. Dr. Shah (@dermdoctor)

Anyone who uses TikTok knows how big the skincare and beauty community is on the app. Dr. Shah is a part of this community as he is a licensed dermatologist who shares viral skincare, dermatology and beauty videos while sharing his professional take on the latest trends.

8. Emily Mariko, (@emilymariko)

Emily is a woman of many talents, from creating delicious recipes to being a fashion icon to being an overall lifestyle influencer. Her simple yet delicious cooking videos have become the latest obsession on #FoodTok.

9. Mikayla Nogueira (@mikaylanogueira)

Beauty guru, Mikayla Nogueira, is a TikTok creator best known for her makeup product reviews, amusing personality, and Boston accent.

She uses her platform to inspire others to step out of their comfort zone, promote inclusivity, and open up about mental health issues.

10. Jonathan Graziano (@jongraz)

Jonathan and his internet-famous pug Noodles have won all our hearts by simple deciding whether it’s a “bones” or “no bones” day. This duo gives viewers a boost of confidence and positivity to tackle the world on bones days, and to be okay with laying low on no bones days.

Apart from the breakthrough stars in the United States, TikTok also highlighted stars from around the world. They included Khaby Lame, Abby Roberts, BTS, and The Dutch Goal keeper.

Vanessa Pappas, the Chief Operating Officer at TikTok commended the apps diverse community.

“There’s something really special about TikTok’s diverse global community that people just can’t find anywhere else. For us, 2021 was a year for connection and we’ve seen people on TikTok laughing together, entertaining us, starting cultural phenomenons, and teaching us new things,“ said Pappas.

“It’s been incredible to see the depths of entertainment and creativity from this community, and we’re delighted to celebrate all the ways we’ve come together this year on TikTok,” added Pappas.
