After a year of being cooped up indoors because of the Coronavirus pandemic, people are finally able to enjoy the outside again.
With eased lockdown restrictions people have been able to spend more time outside, this has led to the return of picnics.

People all over the world have taken to social media to show off their fancy outdoor set-ups in the new trend of ‘lavish picnics’ which are very different from traditional paper plates, simple sandwiches and boxed wine.
With the new trend people are swapping out their old picnic rugs for stylish blankets, and bringing with them champagne buckets, full crockery, cutlery and glasswear, making it very ’Instagrammable’.
The video-sharing app TikTok has also seen a rise in lavish picnics as more people are posting their get-togethers which usually include dried flowers, cushions, baskets, candles and fashionable napkin sets that add to the elegance of the trend.
The lavish aesthetic does not end there though, food at picnics has gotten an upgrade as well with people packing cake that they cut using wine glasses. Charcuterie boards, fresh bread, fruit and other desserts like macaroons and pastries are also often on the menu for the day.
With over 1 billion views on TikTok, lavish picnics are here to stay. There are even accounts on both TikTok and Instagram that offer tips for planning the best lavish picnics and others offer to plan the picnic for you.

The food that is served at these lavish picnics is what sets them apart from traditional simple picnics. Whether it’s a charcuterie board or macaroons for dessert, the menu needs to be fancy for these set-ups.
