Baked oats for breakfast is the latest trend to take the foodie world by storm, with thousands of home cooks sharing their delicious recipes on TikTok.
Following the success of the baked feta pasta meal earlier in the year, the newest food trend requires bakers to combine oats (regular or blended to make oat flour), mashed banana, milk and your choice of toppings to make a tasty breakfast.
The hashtag #BakedOats currently has over 284 million views on TikTok, where foodies have shared their creations topped with everything from peanut butter chocolate to strawberry cheesecake.
The reason why the baked oats are so delicious is because after they have been baked, they come out of the oven with a cake-like consistency.
But the breakfast dish also doesn’t have to be unhealthy, thanks to the high levels of protein and fibre in oats and the ability to top them with healthy nut butters and stewed fruit.
One of the most popular recipes on TikTok is for brownie baked oats, which use banana, rolled oats, almond milk, cocoa powder, baking powder, vanilla essence, maple syrup, strawberries and chocolate to create a decadent dish.
Here is how you can make your own brownie baked oats at home.
Ingredients:
One banana, mashed
Half a cup of rolled oats
Half a cup of almond milk
One tablespoon of cacao powder
A quarter of a teaspoon of baking powder
Half a teaspoon of vanilla essence
One teaspoon of maple syrup
Strawberries to serve
Piece of chocolate to serve
Method:
1. Get a small dish from your kitchen cupboard and mash a full banana in it.
2. Add half a cup of rolled oats, half a cup of almond milk and one tablespoon of cacao powder to the bowl.
3. Add a quarter of a teaspoon of baking powder and half a teaspoon of vanilla essence to the mix.
4. Finish with one teaspoon of maple syrup and stir everything together inside the bowl.
5. Bake the dish in the oven at 180 degrees Celsius for 28-30 minutes.
6. Serve hot topped with strawberries and a piece of chocolate.
