A self-taught artist has left many confused with his realistic 2D drawings that will leave almost anyone mind blown.

Using the art technique trompe-l’oeil, talented TikTok user myart1975, leaves his followers questioning if anything is real.

One of his more famous videos popped up on my For You Page on the photo-sharing app and I was intrigued. I then spent a considerable amount of time watching some of his other videos as his art is interestingly confusing.

In the first video I saw, the artist asks viewers to guess which of the lollipops in the frame are a two-dimensional picture and which ones are real. At first glance, it seems simple but then he uses a ruler to flick away the real lollipops which is where the confusion kicks in, he removes all the lollipops until the image is the only thing left.

According to reports, trompe-l’oeil means ‘trick of the eye’ which makes sense because in myart1975’s videos your eyes are fooled into thinking a drawing is real.

Other reports describe it as an art technique that uses realistic imagery to create an optical illusion, making it look like 2D objects exist in three dimensions. It grew in popularity during the Renaissance.

Users expressed their awe at the video, which has racked up more than 7 million views.

The TikTok account also features several other confusingly impressive videos, including one with candy bars, and another featuring fish-shaped snack cookies.

Optical illusions are not the only thing featured on the account though, the artist also includes tutorials and hacks for other artists to try.
