Beauty pageants are a big part of South Africa and the world and Mr South Africa (MR SA) is one such pageant that is growing in its popularity.

On Wednesday the official Twitter account for Mr SA tweeted the top 20 finalists for this years competition. Mzansi was quick to express how  unimpressed they were with the candidates.

According to the Mr South Africa website, the characteristics that define Mr SA include excellence, integrity, professionalism and compassion.

To which some women were outraged due to the more detailed characteristics stipulated for the Miss South Africa candidates.

If the Mr South Africa account says that the Mr SA contestants only have to have a “good heart” then the same should apply to Miss South Africa.

It would be nice to see a Miss SA with an afro, a curvaceous Miss SA etc. We are tired of seeing the same face win.

Anyone….and I mean anyone can be a Mr SA finalist

I get where you’re coming from, but I think the outrage is mostly with the high entry standard Miss SA has verses the low entry standard Mr SA.
Patriarchy rearing its ugly head. https://t.co/6x5aoC3HHf

What’s hilarious about backlash around #MrSouthAfrica is how some men are complaining that contestants are being victimised, harrassed & judged unfairly for their appearance.
