SADC Top 100 of 2018: Healer, Juliana Busasi

Founder and Executive Director at Tanzania Health and Medical Education Foundation (TAHMEF), Juliana  Busasi has dedicated all her energy into solving the problem of poor health service deliverance. 
Tanzanians with low social economic status within informal sectors, receive Busasi’s free health screening services.
TAHMEF has been a vehicle for Tanzanian medical students to create and implement innovative solutions to Tanzania’s health sector. In 2017, the organisation succeeded in reaching more than 7,000 Tanzanians with free quality health screening services in the span of one year.
The astounding organisation is currently working on developing a micro-health insurance scheme for Tanzanians in the informal sector. “Good Health is the foundation to overcome poverty, and a country with good Health has the potential to achieve sustainable development,” she notes.
Before starting TAHMEF,  she developed skills in organisational management, fundraising, and Community Outreach through working as a Chemistry and Biology Part-time teacher at Kassa Charity Secondary School in the Mwanza Region.
Since then,the Public Health activist  has been certified as a Hand-wash and Mental Hygiene Trainer by Colgate in Partnership with Tanzania Medical Students Association in 2014. 
Dar Es Salaam, Dodoma, Mwanza, Mbeya, Manyara, and Pwani have always been aided through TAHMEF. Her focus is mainly on Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) such as breast cancer, cervical cancer, prostate cancer, hypertension, and diabetes. 
For her efforts, Busasi has been recognised and awarded with the Health Sector, Malkia wa Nguvu 2017 Award by Clouds Media Group.
Her vision includes establishing a stable health system in developing countries with easily accessible and good quality health care services for all patients, despite their economic status.
The high population growth in Tanzania, over (3.6%) makes it difficult to achieve health objectives on a long-term basis. However, the leader and her TAHMEF team are dedicated to availing healthcare provision to Tanzanians of all ages and backgrounds.
