SADC Top 100 of 2018: Trailblazer, Hlulani Baloyi

Digital analyst, Hlulani Baloyi is a woman inventing tomorrow.
The Tshwane University of Technology graduate joined Geekulcha – a space that creates and enables platforms for Innovation and Creativity while exposing young talent and skills to the corporate world. Baloyi soon discovered a problematic gap between males and females in the ICT sector. She conducted research and stumbled across Girl Rising, a global campaign for girls’ education and empowerment. Baloyi is now a Girl Rising ambassador and helps bridge the gender gap by teaching women how to code.
Baloyi also co-founded Raeketsetsa (we are doing it ourselves), a movement which focuses on sustaining and empowering young women who are already in the tech space.
With Mixo Ngoveni and Thuli Sibeko as her mentors, Baloyi has been incredibly successful in the ICT field. The millennial’s accomplishments include being awarded a Google Africa Challenge Scholarship and receiving a Girl Rising Ambassador for South Africa certificate.
She enjoys seeing the impact that comes with the digital solutions she implements and encourages young people in Africa to collaborate and share their amazing ideas.
