Kenilworth Racecourse in Cape Town was a hive of activity on Saturday with celebrities, fashionistas and punters attending one of the most anticipated fashion events of the year – the Sun Met.

Previously known as the J&B Met, the Sun Met sets itself apart from previous years with the theme interpretation arguably different from what we’ve seen.

The theme being “Decades of Glamour”, was represented by different fashion era’s, from the 1960s to the 1990s, and the year 2000s.

The best-dressed couple title went to blogger and model Abongwe Qokela and model and fashion influencer, Anesu Chogugudza.

Qokela wore a 1950s inspired dress by Merwe Mode and a hat by Crystal Birch while her partner Chogugudza wore a Markham suit.

Qokela jokingly said that her look was a last minute thing, “I got it on Friday afternoon after seeing my date’s complete look, which was inspired by the 20s look.”

The win was a plus for the blogger because it brought a lot of attention to her blog called Disco Stray Jacket. She commented saying, “this is a great way to start the year.”

Chogugudza said he thought that the whole entry was a joke, “I walked on stage smiling and having fun, the next thing I hear them announcing that I had won the best dress.”

Winning the competition includes direct access to the VIP marquee on the day of the Sun Met and an all expenses paid trip to Sun City.

This year’s Sun Met welcomed celebrities and bloggers such as Generations the legacy star, Thando Thabethe with her glittering blue jumpsuit and co-star Thulisile Phongolo shimmering in a bronze long-sleeved Scalo embellished gown.

As well as media media mogul Basetsana kumalo with her fashion statement hat, actress & TV presenter Jessica Nkosi and Khanya Mkangisa, and model and presenter Maps Maponyane.
