For years now people have been talking about the R&B singer Robert Sylvester Kelly who is better known as R Kelly.
Despite legal threats from the ‘disgraced’ R&B singer, Lifetime has released a three-night – six-part special – docuseries that premiered Thursday night. And to no one’s surprise, #SurvivingRKelly, which is the title of the series, immediately began trending on Twitter.
The Lifetime documentary series, features over 50 interviews but is reported to only feature two fellow artists, John Legend and Stephanie “Sparkle” Edwards.
Legend has been praised for appearing in the series because so many other artists reportedly denied the opportunity to speak up on the series but he dismissed the praise tweeting, “To everyone telling me how courageous I am for appearing in the doc, it didn’t feel risky at all,” he tweeted. “I believe these women and don’t give a f**k about protecting a serial child rapist. Easy decision.”
To everyone telling me how courageous I am for appearing in the doc, it didn’t feel risky at all. I believe these women and don’t give a fuck about protecting a serial child rapist. Easy decision.

Like most times Twitter was split in the middle with some people demanding proof for all the allegations against R Kelly and others expressing their disappointment, rage and, disgust.
#SurvivingRKelly seems like crap. I mean its from lifetime, Aaliyah’s mom straight up said it lies and this is a great time in America for people to lie about this kinda thing. So yeah. I’m not believing shit. pic.twitter.com/qSxf0YrXw3

John Legend is the only prolific R. Kelly collaborator to come forward & put him on blast. Badu declined. Jay-Z declined. Questlove declined. Lil Kim declined. Chappelle declined. Mary J. Blige declined. Your activism doesn’t mean shit if it’s only for show & ignores black women.

It should go without saying that Black girls should matter more than good music & a musical gift; that a minor should not be maligned as a manipulator of a man. Let’s teach boys that girls’ bodies are not theirs to molest & misuse. Not theirs to do anything with. #SurvivingRKelly

An entire generation glorified that man. Protected him. Made excuses for him. Supported him. From parents, media outlets, teachers, fans etc. Straight trash 🗑. Don’t ever complain about millennials. #SurvivingRKelly

“I forged some paperwork for Aaliyah to marry Robert”
“If Robert pointed out a girl he wanted, I’d go get her for him”
“I remember walking in on Robert rubbing on this girl who looked young. She was clearly a baby in my eyes but I didn’t ask for ID.”
