Gen Z’s have yet again taken something away from millennials, like killing the laughing crying emoji was not enough. They have now also declared that skinny jeans are a thing of the past.

According to the popular Glow Up University account on TikTok, skinny jeans are cancelled. In one of the style inspiration videos posted on the account, she explains that skinny jeans are outdated and a shift to more modern style denim is a must.

The shift to more relaxed fitting jeans is not so bad but some millennials are reluctant to let go of their beloved skinny jeans.

One user on Twitter said they did not care what was said about skinny jeans and another said the jeans would never go out of style.

But another user seemingly caved to the pressure;

The debate will probably go on for a while online but here are some alternatives if you decide to cave and get some new jeans, but honestly, you can wear whatever you want!

Mum Jeans

This style of these jeans usually consists of a high waist rising above the navel, with excess space in the zipper, and leg areas. The jeans are usually in a solid, light-blue colour, with no form of stone washing or fading but as they grow in popularity designs are varying more.

Boyfriend jeans

If you are looking for an even more relaxed, loose fit then look no further than boyfriend jeans. These jeans are usually fitted a bit at the hips but then are generously looser on the leg.

The Wide-leg

This style of jeans is definitely an oldie and most people might not like it because of how wide the leg is but they are definitely back in style. With celebrities like Selena Gomez and Dua Lipa embracing the chic trend, these jeans are here to stay.

The Slim boot-cut

This style is for those that can’t commit to the wide-leg jeans and want a little less legroom in their pants. Boot-cut jeans are not new but the recent style sees the widening at the calf be a bit tighter than back in the day.

The Straight leg

This style gives the knees and ankles more breathing room since the width of the hem is straight from the hip to the ankle. The waistline lies between the super-tight fit of a skinny jeans and the relaxed slouch of boyfriend jeans.

The asymmetric jeans

These jeans are very similar to boyfriend jeans in the sense that they fit loosely on the body and tend to sit higher on the waist. The twist is that the zip and button area has an asymmetric design to it which gives the denim a modern feel.
