Insecure
It’s not surprising that Insecure is on this list as the show has been making waves in the world of TV series.
Issa Rae’s striking HBO series Insecure is not only cherished for its dynamic storyline set in Los Angeles, but for its music selection that bumps up the show’s aesthetic.
Ranging from RnB to Hip Hop, the show is synonymous with selecting tracks from rising new artists and taking time apart from mainstream charts.
With that being said, some of the banging songs from the series include Leikeli 47’s Attitude, SZA’s Supermodel and Kendrick Lamar’s Alright.
Claws
When we think of Miami, some of the things that fly through our minds are sultry beaches, sexy people, dreamy sunsets and organised crime.
Basically, a scene taken out of Scarface.
Claws revisits that vision with a storyline of five diverse female baddies who take on the dark underworld as they work in a nail salon.
This comedy-drama TV series boasts all sorts of summertime jams, featuring the likes of Schoolboy Q (Hell of a Night), Kali Uchis (Ridin’ Round) and Patti LaBelle (Lady Marmalade).
Glow
Netflix places the spotlight on all things from the 1980s with their comedy series Glow. Kickstarting with a nostalgic soundtrack, the fictional series takes you through the funky era with spandex, bright eyeshadow, leg warmers and shaggy hair.
Glow follows the lives of female wrestlers with old school feel good tracks like Eye of The Tiger (Survivor), It’s Like That (Run-DMC) and Invincible (Pat Benatar).
Even if you aren’t old enough to have lived through the electrifying 80s, Glow will create the spark that visions the era.
Queen Sugar
Noted to be the first TV series to be directed by an all-female crew, which includes Oprah Winfrey, Queen Sugar brings us nail-biting drama as it unpacks the ups and downs of the Bordelon siblings.
Starring breakthrough acting heartthrob Kofi Siriboe, Queen Sugar confronts the racial issues soaring through America, such as police brutality and the national anthem protests at the NFL.
Apart from being held in high regards, the series includes a hit smacking playlist among the likes of Jhene Aiko, Francis and the Lights, and Jidenna.
Atlanta
Award winning comedy series Atlanta is sure to grab your attention by having some of the hottest tracks as you are taken through the rap scene in Atlanta by two cousins.
Donald Glover, the creator and star behind the visual masterpiece, had sidestepped from putting his discography into the series playlist.
Some of the show’s musical contributions are made by Migos (Cook It Up and Spray The Champagne), Future (Real Sisters) and OutKast (Elevators (Me and You)).
This is definitely a series not to be missed if you are a rap or Hip Hop fan.
Big Little Lies
