Now that most Covid related travel restrictions have been lifted, people will be spending more time on aeroplanes.

This means it is a good time to sharpen your airport etiquette to ensure that you have pleasant flights.

The best place to find some tips is of course from a flight attendant, because they spend plenty of time on planes and in airports.

Tommy Cimato, who has more than 126,000 followers on TikTok, uses his platform to warn passengers against certain in-flight behaviours in his popular ‘Five Things You Should Never on an Airplane’ videos.

In his video series, Cimato points out some of the most germ-covered areas on a plane that people should try to avoid at all costs.

“Do not ever go barefoot. Don’t take your shoes off,’ he insisted in his first of two videos, which was posted in July. ‘The floors are filthy. I see so many people do this and it’s just not sanitary. Don’t do it.”

Cimato went on to warn against getting up during turbulence and ignoring the flight attendants’ safety demos.

“In the unlikely event of something happening, if you paid attention, you are 80 percent more likely to survive,” he explained.

The flight attendant focused on sanitation and health in the second TikTok video, insisting people should watch what they touch in the bathroom.

“Do not ever touch the flush button or lever with your bare hands,” he said.

“It’s honestly just super unsanitary and it’s pretty gross, so when you flush, use a napkin or a tissue that’s in the lavatory.“

He advised against people falling asleep or leaning their heads on the windows for the same reason.

“You’re not the only one who has done that, and you don’t know how many people or children have wiped their hands or other things all over the window,“ he explained.

Cimato also said passengers shouldn’t wear shorts on an aeroplane if they can avoid it, which surprised a number of viewers.

“It’s the same thing as the window,’ he shared. ‘You never know how clean it’s gonna be. So if you have pants, you’re gonna have less germs.”

Cimato also explained the importance of communicating with flight attendants if you are feeling unwell.

“We are here to help, so if you need food, water, or an air sickness bag, please feel free to let us know,“ he said.

He also took issue with passengers snapping their fingers at the flight attendants, insisting it’s completely unnecessary.

Many viewers admitted they were confused by his videos because they thought aeroplanes were sanitized after each flight, especially during the pandemic.

Cimato responded in the comments, explaining that while the plane is cleaned, some areas may get overlooked.

“The ground crew does all the plane cleaning,’ he wrote. ‘They try their best to keep it clean, but this is just in case if it gets missed!“ he explained.
