Recycling is good for the environment and for financial gain, a young Rustenburg businesswoman this week.

“It is important to recycle because it is good for the environment. And if it is of financial benefit as well then it is a great thing. I chose this industry because it is growing. It is gaining the momentum it needs and has proven to be sustainable,” Reabetswe Ngwane said.

The 26-year-old is the proud owner of ATYRE, a company that recycles tyres. The company was established three years ago and employs 13 full-time staff. Ngwane says she wants to grow the business and employ more people.

She is exhibiting her recycled tyre bags at the two-day Women in Tourism conference in Rustenburg that aims to put women in the agenda for economic development.

Reabetswe supplies mining companies with respirator bags, first aid kits and seat protectors. She also supplies goods to retail shops and construction companies.

Addressing the conference Women Minister Bathabile Dlamini encouraged young people to be involved in telling stories of their traditions to promote tourism.
