Kalnisha Singh, 32, is not your average transformation executive.

For her job at SA Taxi, she’s typically involved in 15 projects at a time and loves every minute of it. She has a master’s degree in applied economics, which she has earned through hands-on involvement in various organisations, including KwaZulu-Natal’s first woman-owned construction company.

Thanks to Singh’s recommendations, the company went from a per project value of R150 000 to R120 million. She was a recipient of the Nelson Mandela Economic Scholarship in 2003 and has led project teams that have delivered reports to high-level organisations, including the Presidential Review Commission, the Department of Science and Technology, and the Department of Mineral Resources.

These days, in her role as head of transformation and special projects at SA Taxi and director of the SA Taxi Foundation – SA Taxi’s corporate social investment arm – she actively contributes to the socio-economic development of the industry, which comprises some 500 000 small, medium and micro enterprises.

And there’s a lot more she wants to offer: “I want to influence the fabric of South African economics and, most importantly, the way that South Africans relate to the economy”.
