Boitumelo Mmakou is the founder of Mashadi Media, a public relations agency that provides public relations services and support to South African dancers.

The agency focuses on profiling the work of dancers, showcasing their events and dance competitions.

Mmakou’s vision includes using her public relations company to create awareness of South Africa’s talent. She believes that it is everyone’s responsibility to make a contribution to developing communities. ”With the resources that we have in Africa, young people can change the narratives about our continent,” she says. The University of the Witwatersrand graduate reveals that her passion for dance and music ignited at age 13.

Mmakou is also the founder of a music blog – Musicology South Africa. The Standard Bank 2018 Rising Stars award winner was only 15 years old when she got her first writing job with Teen Zone magazine. She has since written for the Randburg Sun and Bona magazine. Over the past two years, she has worked as a content producer for YFM’s breakfast show.

Mmakou does not charge her clients exorbitant fees as she acknowledges that dancers don’t make much money. Her aim instead is to ensure that they are well profiled and recognised in the entertainment industry for their raw talent.

“Don’t wait for the next person to do something, think of a new idea and do it,” she says.

Mmakou’s long-term goals include extending Mashadi Media’s reach and transforming it into a recognisable brand that houses local musicians and dancers. She plans to enhance Mashadi Media’s efforts through strategic marketing and effective public relations strategies.

More importantly, Mmakou intends to give back to her community by playing a role in mentoring young people and enabling them to achieve and ‘flourish’.
