JOHANNESBURG – Swifties can rejoice! Taylor Swift was named the highest paid women in music according to Forbes for 2016 after a hugely successful year touring for her 1989 album.

But who did beat to ascend to the top?

1. Taylor Swift – $170m

The majority of her money came in from her highly successful world tour for her 1989 album which has drawn millions of people in North America alone, and her affiliations with brands such as Apple and Coke rounded off her huge sum.

2. Adele – $80m

What makes Adele a true musician, is that she made the majority of her money through album sales and tours alone of her album 25 which was the best selling album of last year and shattered decade long album sales records.

3. Madonna – $76m
Madonna has been on the road for quite some time now, for her Rebel Heart tour and also earned from major endorsements. Not bad for someone who is worth about a half a billion dollars net worth.

4. Rihanna – $75m
Even as Riri has made performances, tours after the release of her album Anti, she made the bulk of her money doing endorsements with big name brands such as Puma, Samsung and Dior and Puma, collaborating for the Fenty x Puma clothing range she debuted at Paris Fashion Week.

5. Beyonce – $54m

Even as Queen Bey has had a successful year with the release of Lemonade in April this year, she is expected to do cash in more next year, and feature higher on the list when she begins her Formation and Lemonade tour worldwide.
