Nothing goes well with chicken nuggets quite like the iconic sweet ’n sour dipping sauce from McDonald’s.

A US based chef and author who goes by @flakeysalt on TikTok has recreated the sweet ’n sour sauce so that foodies can whip it up at home.

Joshua Weissman who uses social media to share his food creations, shared the recipe in a now-viral TikTok video showing exactly how he made the famous dip using apricot jam, peach preserve, sherry vinegar, smoked paprika, soy sauce and onion powder.

In the video he says that people have asking him to recreate the sauce as he often does with other popular food.

‘Okay fine, people are now asking me to make this,’ the chef said as he showed the camera the fast food chain’s classic sauce.

After tasting the sauce, he confidently said: ‘We can do that.’

In the video that has over 11 million views he shows the whole process of making the sauce starting from making the apricot jam from scratch.

‘[Apricot], dice, into a pot, sugar, a touch of vinegar and bring that to a boil. You want that reduced for 10 minutes,’ Weissman explained.

To replicate the Sweet ‘N Sour sauce, he placed a quarter cup of peach preserve into a small pot, followed by half a cup of apricot jam.

He also added one tablespoon of sherry vinegar, one teaspoon of soy sauce, one teaspoon of smoked paprika, one teaspoon of onion powder, one-and-a-half teaspoon of Dijon mustard.

‘Whisk it, whisk it,’ he said.

Over medium-high heat, he allowed the sauce to simmer.

‘Cook it for one minute,’ he explained.

In a small bowl, he then mixed one teaspoon of cornstarch with two tablespoons of water.

‘Whisk it in your slurry and continue to cook until thicken,’ he said.

Once the sauce has thickened, he seasoned it with sea salt.

‘I think we have a winner buddy,’ Joshua said after enjoying a McNugget with his homemade sauce.

Viewers were delighted that he finally recreated the sauce with one writing, “Thank you. I’ve been waiting my entire life for this.”

“McDonald’s sweet and sour slaps. I will make this and report back” another added.
