As the video-sharing app TikTok grows daily more and more people are joining it. From lip-syncing to creating new dance moves and even cooking tips, the app truly is a gift that keeps on giving.

If you have been living under a rock or are not a Gen Z, TikTok is a video sharing application, similar to Vine which was not that popular in South Africa before its discontinuation in 2016.

On TikTok people can post videos and use an array of soundtracks and Snapchat-style filters, which can morph faces or create other visual effects.

Users can also follow each others’ accounts and create a feed of new content from the creators they enjoy most. There is also a “For You” feed that shows a random assortment of videos from others. This mechanism offers an endless play of new content to watch and it feeds into the highly addictive nature of TikTok.

However, it also allows for smaller accounts to ‘blow up’ and grow their following basically overnight.

Being a millennial on TikTok is a bit tricky because it does feel like more catered for Gen Z’s but nonetheless I have a top 5 favourite TikTokers that I think everyone should be follow.
