ANN7’s award ceremony, the South African of the Year 2016, which aims at celebrating and honoring the country’s musicians, artists, conservationists, sport, youth and business leaders with fans voting for the nominees in various categories, has been postponed.

According to the channel, “The postponement is due to unforeseen regulatory circumstances that have materially impacted on logistics for the event. Regretfully this has left us with no choice but to seek a new date in the near future. We look forward to confirming a rescheduled date.”

Opening up to African News Agency, the EFF has made it clear that it is against everything under the Gupta name, and vouched in pulling out all the stops to boycott the #SATY2016. The party has come out to express admiration to the invited guests who withdrew from invitations.

“All individuals who were invited and withdrew their participation have chosen to put the interests of the country first and in the process demonstrated their dignity and self-worth”.

“We must all stop going to the Gupta-owned ANN7 TV programs and taking interviews from The New Age.”

“We welcome this as a manifestation of the response to the EFF’s call for South Africans to boycott the awards, thus rendering the ceremony unattainable.” the EFF added

The awards will host American singer Jennifer Lopez as the headlining act, were scheduled to take place on November 25 at the Ticketpro Dome in Johannesburg and would have been broadcast on the channel.

A new date for the awards will be announced.
