Google users globally are reporting issues connecting to Gmail and Google Drive. 

It appears the outage is a global one, with a large concentration of issues centered in Europe and Australia. 

Outage tracker site DownDetector picked up problems 7:24am BST.

Of all the reported problems, the majority (61 per cent) were with attaching items to an email. 

Others were struggling to log in (22 per cent) and receive messages (15 per cent).  

For Google Drive, the primary issue was with file syncing, consisting 68 per cent of all reported problems. 

The root cause of the issues is currently unknown.  

Reports of a drop in connectivity came from all over the world, including India, Australia, the US and Britain.  

Users took to Twitter as well as Google’s Community pages to bemoan the outage.

Some said they were seeing a message which said: ‘Oops something went wrong’.

Others received a pop-up box which read ‘Message could not be sent. Check your network and try again’.   

MailOnline has contacted Google for comment. 

On Google’s G Suite dashboard a litany of issues are noted, including with Google Drive and Gmail.

It also notes problems with Google’s Docs, Slides, Sites, Groups, Chat. Meet Keep and Voice services.

As of 9:38, the last update, Google was still trying to fix the problem. 

The status update reads: ‘We are continuing to investigate this issue. We will provide an update by 20/08/2020 10:38 detailing when we expect to resolve the problem.’
