Netflix’s acclaimed anthology series Black Mirror will return for a fifth season next month, with a star-studded cast including Miley Cyrus, Andrew Scott and Anthony Mackie.
Three new episodes of the Emmy-winning sci-fi drama series will be released on the streaming site on June 5. The episode titles are “Striking Vipers”, “Smithereens” and “Rachel, Jack & Ashley Too”.
Cyrus’ appearance will be her first acting role since 2016, when she starred in Woody Allen’s Amazon mini-series, Crisis in Six Scenes.
Andrew Scott is best known for his role as a priest in Fleabag and as Moriarty in Sherlock, while Anthony Mackie has appeared in several Marvel films including Avengers: Endgame.
Other names on the cast list include Yahya Abdul-Mateen II from Jordan Peele’s Us, That 70s Show star Topher Grace and Sleepy Hollow actor Nicole Beharie. For a full look at the actors appearing in Black Mirror season five, scroll or swipe through the gallery below.
Black Mirror often depicts a bleak and dystopian future, but its creator Charlie Brooker recently suggested that viewers often take the show too seriously.
“I think it’s often easy for people to overlook the dark humour that is in Black Mirror,” he said in March. “Certainly when the ideas come about, it’s an idea that makes me laugh. But then we play it really straight. Having said that, I’m proud to be a morose individual.”

A special interactive film titled Bandersnatch was released last December, allowing the audience to decide the fate of protagonist Stefan, a video game developer living in 1984.
The film, which was heavily inspired by the 1980s book series Choose Your Own Adventure, featured five different endings for viewers to choose from.
The official synopsis for Black Mirror reads: “Black Mirror is an anthology series that taps into our collective unease with the modern world, with each stand-alone episode a sharp, suspenseful tale exploring themes of contemporary techno-paranoia leading to an unforgettable – and sometimes unsettling – conclusion.”
