Kanye West no longer wants to go by that name, the US rapper said on Saturday, asking people to call him Ye instead.
He referred to himself on Twitter as “the being formally [sic] known as Kanye West” and announced to his 28.5 million followers, “I am YE.”
His Twitter name has been changed to “ye,” but his handle @kanyewest remains unchanged.
West has used the nickname Ye in the past and it is also the name of his eighth studio album, which was released in June.
The “Gold Digger” rapper is not the first musician to toy with his name. Fellow US rapper Sean Combs has performed as Puff Daddy, P Diddy, and most recently Diddy.
In the early nineties, the late pop icon Prince changed his name to an unpronounceable symbol for a spell.
