The Young Independents (TYI) is searching for the Top 100 inspiring and aspiring young leaders from across sub-Saharan Africa who are involved in projects that are contributing towards developing their communities against all odds.

What does it take to change Africa? To inspire change? It takes 100%, every day. It takes grinding for what you believe in. It takes challenging the expected. It takes staying 100.

It takes 100 youthful minds inspiring hundreds more. And sometimes, all it takes is a single person to be that 1-in-a-100.

We are looking for 100 inspiring and aspiring young leaders from Southern Africa (SADC) within the 5 specified categories;

Young people inventing new products, business ideas or services that are changing the way we live, work and play.

Young people who are influencing the actions and behaviors of brands, policies and people.

Young people leading their field.

Young people who are driven to heal our planet and society with their hands and heads.

Young people challenging the status quo with unconventional ideas.

TYI’s top 100 is an initiative by the Independent Media Group that offers trailblazers, influencers, disruptors, healers, innovators, entrepreneurs, creatives and social activists between the ages 18-35 the opportunity to showcase their community contributions and efforts towards community development.

Nominees vying for the coveted title should be leaders in their respective field and must be citizens of any country in the Southern African Development Community (SADC) region, namely Angola, Botswana, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Comoros, Lesotho, Malawi, Madagascar, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Seychelles, South Africa, eSwatini, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
