It has led to viewers starting the “dalgona candy challenge” on TikTok, where fans recreate the show’s sweet but deadly treat.

Solid dalgona candy is different from dalgona coffee, which started trending at the beginning of the Covid pandemic last year.

Instead of being made by whipping some instant coffee, the candy is made by melting sugar.

Dalgona candy is essentially a honeycomb toffee treat that reportedly became popular in South Korea during the ’70s and ’80s.

According to Popsugar, vendors would place designs in the middle of the sweet treat as a challenge. If children were able to pluck out the shape inside the candy without shattering it, they would get the candy for free. However, the game is rigged from the start, as dalgona candy is extremely brittle.

The challenge can be seen on the show as well but with a deadlier ending for those that fail to pluck out the shape from the candy without breaking it.

The hashtags “dalgona challenge” and “honeycomb challenge” have received more than 82 million views combined on the video-sharing app but some of that can be credited to previous food challenges.

Here is how you can get in on the fun by making your own dalgona candy at home:

Ingredients (serves one):

One tablespoon granulated sugar

1/8 teaspoon baking soda

Method:

1. Cook sugar over a low heat and stir with a chopstick for about two minutes until the mixture turns a pale light yellow.

2. Stir in baking soda and whisk for five seconds before removing from the heat.

3. Continue to whisk until the baking soda is dissolved and the mixture starts to froth and double in volume

4. Pour the mixture straight onto a silicone mat and then press down on the candy for about five seconds.

5. Allow the mixture to cool for two to three minutes
