JOHANNESBURG – Sikhutsele Primary School in Barberton, Mpumalanga, received a donation of security fencing from the Eskom Development Foundation to improve safety and create an optimal learning environment for the pupils.

According to Mrs Maphanga, principal of Sikhutsele Primary, the school had been operating for the last four years without a fence.

“The free flow of pedestrians and unauthorised movement within the school’s premises including at night, had left the school vulnerable to incidents of theft and vandalism.”

As part of Eskom’s Corporate Social Investment (CSI) they arranged for the installation of palisade fencing around the premises.

Maphanga said the fencing has helped secure the school’s 24 classrooms, a library, a computer centre, kitchen and admin block.

“We are grateful for the donation, which has resulted in a much safer environment for the learners and the school’s assets. We can now focus on the main thing, which is to educate the children, without having to worry about security issues,” said Maphanga.

The Eskom Development Foundation’s Acting Chief Executive Officer, Cecil Ramonotsi said, through the organisation’s various CSI initiatives, it’s committed to making a meaningful contribution towards uplifting the standard of living for as many South Africans as possible.

“As the Eskom Foundation, we want to affect the kind of change that will be sustainable and reverberate into future generations,” Ramonotsi said.
