The South African president, Cyril Ramaphosa, announced a compulsory 21-day national shutdown in an effort to curb the spread of the coronavirus (Covid-19) in the country.

During his announcement on Monday, the country’s confirmed cases stood at 402, which was a massive increase compared to previous weeks.

It is going to be challenging for those who now have to be cooked up in their homes with family or even just by themselves as most non-essential shops are set to close down for 21 days, leaving South Africans with very little to do.

But luckily for us, in the era of technology, our smart devices are able to keep us entertained. Even though it is advised that we all take this time to bond with our families some fun games can fall as a part of that.

Here are some apps you should download while on lockdown.

1. Create a TikTok account

If you have not already, now is the perfect time to create a TikTok account. The Chinese video sharing social networking site has grown rapidly in popularity since its inception in 2017. Creators use it to showcase their short dance, lip-sync, comedy, and talent videos, making it fun packed for the whole family. With a variety of filters and TikTok challenges the 21 days will literally fly by while you enjoy yourself on this app.

4. Streaming apps

Everyone by now should have their own favourite streaming app, whether it be Netflix, Showmax, Apple TV, HBO, the list goes on and on. During the 21 days it might not be a bad idea to get more than one of these subscriptions and catch up on some good shows. Since we are all going to be saving by not going out to fancy dinners, getting an extra subscription will not only keep you entertained but also your friends or family.

5. Journaling apps

It has never been a more important time to write things down so as to accurately keep record of everything that is happening in the globe right now. Everyone around the world has been affected differently by the coronavirus pandemic which means we all have something to write about as it continues to change the way we live.

Journaling is not just for writers everyone can keep track of their thoughts in a virtual journal or the old fashioned way using an actual journal. There are plenty of journaling apps available though, some will even let you add videos and pictures instead of just words. Do not let the pandemic stop your creativity, go wild.
