Winter gloom and doom doesn’t have to reflect in your wardrobe.
As the clouds roll in and the we bundle up to avoid a nip in the air, we can still maintain the spirit of summer with bright, bold colours in statement winter style.
Deep jewel tones such as emerald green and sapphire blue have made their way from European runways to the streets of SA – meaning you can look like a gem on even the most casual occassion.
As spotted in the A/W collections of recent fashion weeks, these colours are a must-have in every wardrobe this winter.
FIRE-ENGINE RED
Red is coming in hot! This firey shade is making it’s mark, and not just as an accent to neutral wardrobes. Don’t be afraid to make red the focal point of your outfit with an oversized puffer or perhaps a two-piece power suit.
YELLOW
A fresh new hue, known as Gen Z yellow has stolen the spotlight in 2018. With shades ranging from mellow mustard to vivid canary, the colour evokes a sense of youthfulness and playfulness and stands in stark contrast to the solemn days of winter blues.
EMERALD GREEN
Emerald green is the colour to be seen in. Pantone named emerald green as colour of the year in 2013, and it has recently emerged once again as an IT colour of the season. Elegant and classy, this deep tone adds a luxurious element to laidback streetwear or athleisure.
BLUE
Royal, emerald, cerulean and cobalt – blue has always been a sign of royalty and opulence. This cool tone is one of the hottest colours for winter and will defs have you feeling like a modern princess as your bundle up in style.
SILVER
The usual winter colour palette has been reworked this season, but it wouldn’t be a complete fashion-forward transformation without a touch of futurism in the form of metallic silver. Spotted on the runways of Chanel, Tom Ford and Alexander Wang, a silver accent can elevate an ordinary look to a whole new level.
