A write-it-yourself self-help book by graphic designer, Sharon Jones, is redefining the whole genre.

Burn After Writing, is basically a journal filled with prompts like ‘The last time I said I love you,’ ‘My greatest fear’ and ‘My greatest heartbreak.’

The book encourages readers to fill in the blanks as they would in a personal diary by writing out their own personal responses to each prompt.

Once completed, the writer decides whether they want to keep the journal to reflect at a later time or simply burn it as the title suggests.

The book was first released in 2014 in the United Kingdom but only rose to fame recently when TikTok users found out about it.

The therapeutic journal comes in a variety of colours and has been featured in millions of videos on TikTok with users expressing how excited they are to finally be honest with themselves.

Frédéric Trédaniel, the managing director of Trédaniel, which republished the book in March, told The Times that he was shocked when the first print-run of 120,000 copies sold out within a month, the Daily Mail reported.

The ’fill in the blanks’ style journal has also become a bestseller in the ‘Essays’ category, beating out traditional self-help books.
