Water bottles come in handy during these warmer months because they make it easier for us to stay hydrated.

The only problem is that some stainless steel bottles might get mouldy over time.

Luckily, an interior stylist has shared her helpful hack for cleaning stainless steel water bottles and removing any built-up mould from the inside.

Anita Birges said people would be shocked to learn how much mould builds up inside the bottles and how easily a couple of household items can help remove it.

Her hack involves some uncooked rice and a small amount of dishwashing liquid.

In an Instagram video, Birges begins by pouring one-third of a cup of uncooked rice into a stainless steel water bottle.

She then squeezes only a small amount of dishwashing liquid into the bottle full of uncooked rice.

Anita then fills the rice and dishwashing liquid with half a cup of water and then screws the stainless steel water bottle lid on tightly.

She then shakes up the water bottle full of rice and soap thoroughly to eliminate the mouldy interior.

Once the bottle has been shook well she pours the rice, water and dishwashing mixture out of the bottle and over a sieve into the sink.

Finally, she rinses the stainless steel bottle thoroughly with water and reveals and spotless and shining mould-free water bottle interior.

After watching the hack, people started thanking Birges for her genius trick.

“Thank you for sharing this, I just chucked mine out if they got mouldy,” one user commented.

“Nice one, Anita! Never seen that hack before,” another added.
