DIY home projects have grown in popularity with more young people wanting to be hands-on when it comes to their home decor.
Making your own decor at home does not only give your space a personal touch but it is also a nice way to save some money. A TikTok creator that understands this is Simonette who shares her DIY projects on TikTok.
One of her recent projects is a video of her turning an ottoman into a stylish bedside table and that video has since gone viral.
The Melbourne based creator shared the decor hack in a TikTok video that has been viewed more than half a million times.
In the video, Simonette used a stylish ribbed storage ottoman and carefully removed the top cushion with a sharp knife to expose the wooden piece underneath.
The ribbed piece of furniture was then painted a cream colour and left to dry before being styled with candles and a book.
‘Paint any colour you like; I made two, I wanted to use them as bedside tables,’ Simonette wrote in the video.

Her idea quickly started a new TikTok trend as other DIY enthusiasts decided to try the hack themselves.
TikTok user Briley Clifford replicated the method and shared a video online to show the chic end result.
Hannah Leavey also saw the hack and painted the ottoman a bright apple green.
‘So I saw this Kmart hack on TikTok and I ran to my nearest Kmart and got the last one in the store,’ Hannah said in her video.

Simonette’s original video was also quickly flooded with comments who dubbed the idea as ‘clever’ and ‘smart’.
‘This is actually the best DIY I’ve seen on this app,’ one user wrote.
While another said the idea was elite.
