It was a long weekend for the Jali’s, as the Mamelodi Sundowns star midfielder Andile Jali allegedly spent Monday night in police cells following his arrest for domestic violence.
According to TimesLive, the 28-year-old former Orlando Pirates player was arrested for allegedly assaulting his wife Nonhle Ndala at their home in the east of Pretoria.
Police said the severity of his charges did not warrant his release and he spent the night in custody until his court appearance, which was expected to take place on Tuesday.
The report stated that Jali also faces charges of malicious damage to property for allegedly damaging Ndala’s vehicle.
His arrest comes after reports suggesting that he has been struggling with an ongoing alcohol addiction.
According to Zalebs, Andile has been failing breathalyser checks and has been argumentative with his current team’s management, due to his excessive drinking.
The reports allege that Andile’s wife, Nonhle Jali had been contacted regarding the predicament that the family finds themselves in.
However when Nonhle was allegedly contacted by Sunday World, these were her words: “None of the allegations are true, Andile and I are happily married, he is a responsible father who loves and cares for his children, He is currently in training in Port Elizabeth and settling well in his new team”.
Nonhle continued to add: “It is a smear campaign and we are used to it. It is as if people don’t want to see young black marriage succeed”.
