FANCAM is coming back to Newlands this weekend after it proved a big hit with fans the first time the innovative technology was used at a Currie Cup match.
Described as the ‘ultimate crowd selfie’, the FANCAM technology was developed in South Africa and over the past seven years has featured at major events around the world.
From Taylor Swift and U2 concerts to the Super Bowl, UEFA Champions League final and Daytona 500, fans have been able to visit a dedicated website, zoom in, find themselves on an interactive 360o image and share it with friends and family on their social media accounts.
There’s even a permanent FANCAM at Madison Square Garden, home to the New York Rangers and Knicks. Now DirectAxis Financial Services has brought it back home for the Currie Cup,at DHL Newlands and Emirates Airlines Park.
This weekend fans can again experience the FANCAM when DHL Western Province face the Tafel Lager Griquas and can tag themselves in a high-resolution picture on the FANCAM site and share on social media.
Currie Cup supporters can register on www.directaxis.fancam.com before the game to be notified when the image goes live.
As well as seeing themselves at DHL Newlands, fans who visit the website will also be able to look for the Currie Cup, which has been virtually hidden in the stadium. Anyone who finds it stands a chance to win a VIP trip to the Currie Cup final.

We thought the FANCAM image would be a great way for people to re-live the excitement of being at the game as well as sharing the atmosphere with their friends and family.”
