In case you’ve missed it, it’s official, the Sun International is taking over the reins of South Africa’s most prestigious horse-racing event under a new name, The Sun Met celebrated with Mumm.

Who is Mumm?

To take things to another level, this year’s event will bring a breath of fresh air with their brand new sponsor coming on board G.H. Mumm which is a prestigious champagne house that has been blending the finest vintages since 1827.

What’s the theme?

This year’s theme is Decades of Glamour. The race course will be filled with elegance, sophistication and glamour with the world class entertainment.

Decades of Glamour captures the essence of the last eight decades from vintage to modern, daring to classic and everything in-between to show off your true style at The Sun Met celebrated with Mumm.

1920’s : The Great Gatsby The roaring 20’s when the Flapper look was the rage with long necklaces, cloche hats and shift dresses.

1940s and 1950s:

Era of wars The 1940’s was a decade defined by the war years, the padded or puffed shoulder was the dominant look. The 50’s was influenced by two silhouettes – the wide circle skirt and the pencil skirt.

Glam Rock One word comes to mind when you think of 80s – BIG! It was a time of excess and over-the-top flamboyance.

Modern Fashion An era epitomised by style icons with boyfriend blazers and comfortable chic

Who will be performing?

Two of South Africa’s most successful dance bands, Goodluck and Mi Casa will bring the house down with their most popular hits and end the evening with a grandstand finish. The Official Sun Met After-party presented by Guess and The Guess Lifestyle Village at Kenilworth Racecourse will commence just after the completion of the last race. Sketchy Bongo, featuring the great vocals of Kyle Deutsch and Shekhina will kick start the evening following by Euphonik in his indomitable style.
