MTV announced that Bonang Matheba has replaced Trevor Noah as the host of the MAMA’s that will be held tomorrow (October 22nd, 2016).
The announcement comes after Noah cancelled his appearance earlier this morning.
In a statement Noah said that he is unable to attend the event due to health reasons, “I’ve been fighting a severe upper respiratory and ear infection this week and despite tons of medication the infection has gotten the better of me.”
He said due to the infection and strain on his vocal chords, the doctor have ordered him to rest his voice and recover his health.
He future explained why he would not be able to ignore the doctor’s recommendation and push himself, “I desperately wish I could dismiss the doctor but the added risk of flying means that decision would be highly irresponsible and may cause further damage,” he added.
Bonang’s Twitter account has since been busy with fans congratulating her on the new gig and she has been retweeting the news as confirmation of the announcement.
